Little Rock Main Exchange - Local grocery stores are seeing an increase in customers despite the effects of inflation on many large businesses.

The reason why the prices of some of your favorite things are increasing is due to inflation rates.

Her consignment shop depends on donors rather than retailers, so she's usually unaffected by higher prices.

"The beauty of being a resale business is that we sell things at a better price," Rynders said.

They see not only success. South Main Creative, owner Valerie Wingert, said business there is also good.

Her shop is a vintage art gallery center that sells antiques, local vintage art, and handmade items, and tarts.

He believes that people see stores like South Main Creative as a solution to their shopping needs when the big box stores are not what customers are looking for.

"People are very aware that I think it's important not only to support small businesses, but to buy things that are economically and environmentally sustainable," Wingert said.

She said buying antiques and second-hand items at local businesses can ease the pressure on already stressed retailers.

Although she is not expecting the items to be delivered, she said she has changed the price.

"We've increased costs with inflation, but you're not going to see immediate price increases [and]," Wingert said.

Rynders believes that once the high prices caused by inflation begin to come down, he believes that business at consignment stores will continue to increase.

"We're in a backward business, I really believe," Rynders said. "There's nothing better than getting an item at a thrift store for a quarter of the price."

Despite the current rate of inflation, White House press secretary Jen Psaki said retail sales rose 3.8 percent in January.
