Cci 9mm Shotshell Glock - It's that time of year. From doves to coots to ducks and geese, hunters across the country take to the fields and marshes. However, a few weeks ago, I had different goals in mind. Using a Glock 26 and some CCI "BIG 4" cartridges, I went to capture at least one Eurasian pigeon or one that was trying to control my parents' small farm in flight.
Now, before you hear me out, Eurasian pigeons and doves are wild animals. This means it can be hunted every year as a pest (check your state and local laws). They are not the only ones out there; left unchecked, they can disrupt bird populations. British sparrows and starlings are also on the attack (kill list).

The Eurasian pigeon (Streptopelia decaocto), commonly called the common pigeon and sometimes the Eurasian pigeon, is a species of turtle dove native to the warm and tropical Asia which was introduced to North America in the 1980s. In 1974, less than 50 Eurasian steel turtles survived captivity in Nassau, New Providence, Bahamas. The species spread from the Bahamas to Florida and is now found in almost every state in the United States, as well as in Mexico. In Arkansas (USA), the species was first recorded in 1989 and since then the number has increased and is now present in 42 of the 75 counties of the state. It spread from the southeast corner of the state to the northwest in 5 years in 1997, covering a distance of about 500 kilometers (310 miles) at an average of 100 kilometers (62 miles ) per year. This is more than double the speed observed in Europe at 45 kilometers (28 miles) per year.

Shotgun shells designed for rimfire or shotguns are called shotgun shells for a reason. Usually only 10 feet can be used. But these cartridges are usually filled with #8 or #9 bullets. CCI designed the Big 4 shell series to improve the size and impact resistance of older versions.
I split two Big 4 shells and got a 50 grain 15 #4 shot. The red cap, or box, is easy to remove with just my fingers. Below the glass there is a cushion of plastic plates that fasten to the sides of the box.
I load a few Big 4 shells into the magazine, load the sling, and close the sling. The first round went well.
I decided to get some advanced testing equipment and run a few rounds of pattern testing at different distances - pizza boxes. Unfortunately, the images of the test samples were not used, but the result was very clear: anything over 15 feet, these small shells are unmarked. Also note that shells do not spin on my trusty G26. Like all safaris, this experience became a waiting game. A few times I've been scared off by distressed pigeons (non-fighters) or Eurasians who would put up a 30 yard fence around me. Either way, the birds know what I'm doing.
The worst thing is to chase a flying object in the sky with a random gun. It's also hard to get high quality photos of exercise. You quickly feel like you've violated a basic safety rule. Eventually you'll get used to the fact that when you pull the trigger, those little #4 shots will blow in the wind after more than 20 yards.
